I rode the new Nozomi Shinkansen, N700 on July 2, one day after it started its official run.
I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would, because my seat wasn't a green one (Shinkansen has delux cars called "Green Car", like the  Executive Class of airplane).

The seats of the regular cars looked similar as before, but I could soon find there were wall outlets for computers below each window.  I also found the electric news bar was bigger, and that the seats were a little bit roomier than the old ones.

What I liked the most was the restroom with 2 sensors.  One is to flush the toilet, which was also provided to the old Shinkansen.  The other is to lower the toilet seat -- you can do it without touching the dirty seat any more!   I think that is good news for ladies.  Of course there are seat-cleaning wet tissues as before.  The interesting thing was the seat was always defaulted to be UP instead of down.  When I was about to leave the restroom with the seat down, it automatically went up!  I guess that is because more business men take Shinkansen.  Well, I think that is OK, when I think like, what if someone has used the toilet with the seat down...

The big change on this N700 is it has smoking rooms, which I didn't check.  I just didn' t want to go to the stuffy area.

運転開始から1日遅れだけど、新幹線N700系 に乗ってきた。
とはいっても、グリーン車に乗ったわけではないのでそこまで“うぉ～”という感動はなかった。
だって…

車両内は、シートの柄がたいして前のものと変わり映えしなかったのであまり真新しさはなかったが、すぐに目に付いたのは壁にPC用の電源があるのと、電光掲示板のニュースバーがでかくなっていたこと。座席もちょっとだけ広く感じたかな。

いちばん気に入ったのは、トイレにセンサーが2つあって、ひとつは前からある、水を流すセンサー、もうひとつは上がった便座を下げるためのセンサー。これで指一本触れずにばっちぃ便座を下げることができるのだ！　特に女性には朗報。少し前から便座クリーナーが常備されているので、これでもう万全だ。でも、便座は“上がってる状態”がどうもデフォルトらしく、下げたまま帰ろうとしたらパカッと自然にまた便座が上がった。やはり男性客が多いからだろうか。ま、便座下げたまま用を足されるよりマシだからよしとしよう。

ちなみに話題の喫煙ルームですが、私がたばこの煙が嫌いなため近寄りませんでした。
