Missing for 24 years, finally, Statue of Colonel Sanders of KFC was found from a river of Osaka -- some people might know that already, since the issue was covered internationally (example).

What I was shocked by is not the fact the missing was found, but by the real name of Colonel Sanders.

I thought his name was Carnell Sanders!
I've never thought it was Colonel!
Most Japanese people still believe that it is Colonel (I should say Carnell) is his first name.

We call him
Uncle Colonel (or Uncle Carnell).
Now it sounds weird to me!

FYI, we don't distinguish the pronunciations between Colonel and Carnell. They are pronounced the same.

I always request my husband a digital gadget for my birthday.
I didn’t get a MacBook Air last year, though...

This yeary he gave me “TV & Battery”. It is a “one-segment broadcasting tuner and battery in one” device for an iPhone.

A Japanese carrier, Softbank made it to match iPhone design, but the material and box were kind of cheap-looking.  Well, it's ok, as long as it works fine, and it did when I tested.

You can watch TV on your iPhone by receiving data via wi-fi between the iPhone and the tuner. The wi-fi is exclusive for　the tuner. You have to turn it on before starting up TV.  I did so, but the icon turned to 3G -- Weird.

Lateron, I found out the 3G icon was the way it should be. I think it means you have to use 3G network for browsing websites or emailing, because you cannot access to the main wi-fi　while connected to the mini-wifi for TV. (The support guy of Softbank didn't know that.)

Anyway, I hope it will keep working fine.

誕生日にはいつもデジタルガジェットをだんなにリクエストする私。さすがに去年はMacBook Airはくれませんでしたが…。

今年はiPhone用の「TV&バッテリー」にしてもらいました！　ワンセグチューナーと補助バッテリーが一緒になってる、あのやつ。売り切れ続出だったらしいけど、明大前店にちょうど入荷したところでゲットできたそうです。

ソフトバンクが作ってるだけあって、素材や箱がちっとチープだけど、まあちゃんと動けばいいや。テストしたところちゃんとTV映りました。

iPhoneとTV & Battery間をwi-fiでつなぐはずなんだけど、その専用wi-fiをつないだところ、なぜか3Gアイコンになってしまう…。これってヘンだ、とおもいつつ。

後でわかったことだけど、どうやら3Gアイコンは正しいらしい。たぶん、TV & Battery用ミニwi-fiにつないでいる間はメインwi-fiにつなげないから、ウェブ見たりメールしようとすると3Gネットワークを使わないといけないよ、ということなんじゃないか。ちなみにソフトバンクのサポセンはそのことを知らず、3Gアイコンになるのはおかしいと言い張っていたが…。

とにかく、ちゃんと問題なく動いてくれるよう願います。

It’s been such a long time since I posted last. It was for Halloween. I’ve been very very busy -- so busy that I gained weight! (I eat a lot when I’m stressed out). Anyway, here’s something -- the card I made.

最後にポストしてからずいぶん経ちます。ハロウィーン以来か。すごく忙しくて…忙しすぎて太った（ストレスがたまると食べてしまうのです）。とにかく、私が作ったカードでもどうぞ。

We are moving our office to Ebisu in October.  We already found a place, which is about 5 minite walk from Ebisu station.

Yesterday, the government said land prices of 3 major cities in Japan are falling (good thing we didn’t buy a house in a rush).  I heard there are many vacant office rooms in the Shibuya area, Tokyo.  We had looked around Shibuya and actually saw lots of “Vacancy” sign on the streets.

Our new office (Ebisu is in Shibuya ward) -- the rend had been more expensive.  They reduced it - about 30,000 yen because no one would not want to rent at that price.

I think we are moving at a good time :-)

10月にオフィスを恵比寿に引っ越します。すでに物件は見つけていて、恵比寿駅から徒歩5分くらいです。

昨日、地価が発表になり、3大都市の地価は下落傾向にあるそうですね（まぁ、そうだろうな、あわてて家買わなくてよかった…）。渋谷周辺のオフィスも空室が目立っているみたいで、実際物件を探していたときは「空室」サインが目立ってました。

私たちが借りたオフィスも、前は3万円くらい高く設定してあったみたいですが、借り手がないので家賃を下げたみたいです。

いいときに引っ越すのかもしれませんね。

My VAIO broke last week, again!
Right after my MITSUBISHI mobile phone had broken.  Am I giving off any weird radio wave or something?

I turned on the VAIO, but didn’t happen anything.  Just a black screen.
I called the support center, they asked me to do this and that, but the problem wasn’t solved.  “It needs a repair”, they said.

The first time was, 13 months after I bought, right after the regular one-year warranty became invalid.
We call it “Sony Timer”.
I experienced this “Sony Timer” a few times.  2 or 3 walkman’s, stereo, etc.

This time, good thing was, I purchased an additional 3-year warranty.  I didn’t charge me anything - it was free.  I just bought 2-year AppleCare Protection Plan for my iPhone just in case.

あー！！　また壊れたよ。今度はVAIOが。

先日はMITSUBISHI製ケイタイ電話が突然いかれてしまったその矢先だ。
なぜこんなに壊れるの？　私が悪い電磁波を発しているのか。

VAIOの電源を入れたところうんともすんとも言わず、
画面が真っ黒のまんま。
サポートに電話してあーしてこーしていろいろ言われるがまま試したが
「故障ですねー…」とのこと。

このVAIOは故障2回目。
1回目は買って13ヶ月目にバッテリーが故障。
正にソニータイマーだなぁ。

私はソニー製品とはずっと相性が悪いみたいで…。
Walkmanも何台か壊れてるし、ステレオもダメだったし。

ソニースタイルの3年保証に入っていたからよかった。
たぶんタダでしょう。
だいたい壊れるときって1年すぎて壊れる。
なので、iPhoneも2年の保証のApple Protect Care入っておきました。
備えあれば憂いなしです。

Finally, I got an iPhone (8G)!

My previous cell phone (Docomo, D903iTV), which I had used for over a year, broke the day before yesterday -- out of the blue.  I couldn’t hear anything from the ear speaker at all.  I had to listen and speak on the speaker phone, which is very embarrassing -- people can hear all the convesation.

That implies this is the time to get an iPhone!
I thought, and I got one today.
I kept my number.

My previous cell phone will be a mini TV on my desk.
(it has an one segmentation broadcast function)

I have another phone, a simple PHS, not a smartphone.
So I think I did a good choice that I own those 2 phones.

今日、とうとうiPhoneを買いましたー！
8Gのヤツ。

1年ちょっと使っていたケイタイ、
D903iTVが突然おととい壊れたんです。
受話音が全く聞こえなくなりました。
話すときはスピーカで音を出さないといけなくて
とてもはずかしいことに。

それはきっとiPhoneを買えってことじゃない？

というわけで、早速今日買いました。
ナンバーポータビリティを適用したので
電話番号はそのままです。

D903iTVはデスクに置いて
ワンセグだけ入れてミニテレビにする予定です。

ちなみにWilcomも持っていて、
スマートフォンにしなかったので
今さらではあるけれど、
ケイタイをiPhoneにしてよかったなと思ってます。

Last night, I couldn't take my eyes off the TV.
It’s women’s softball gold medal match - Japan vs. USA.
And, we, Japan team won the gold medal! The first time on softball.
We kept losing against the US team, but finally we did win.

The most exciting games on this Olympics so far are:

• Swimming - we got pretty many medals, especially 2 golds on breaststroke! Phelps entertained us, too.
• Judo - we got medals
• Women’s wrestling - we got medals
• Softball
• Men’s 100m & 200m - Bolt’s world records!
  

Disappointing games are...

• Men’s football (soccer) - we were the worst of the group and eliminated. Wemen did a pretty good job, though.
  
• Women’s marathon - the Athens gold medalist didn’t race.

As for the Japanese teams, women did better than men so far.
Watching the games this time,
I realized again that Japanese people are very small and thin (well, I’m not, I’m an exception?).
The difference among men is greater.
I thought that might be a factor to make it harder for the Japanese men to win.

昨夜はテレビに釘付けでした。
ソフトボールの試合、日本対アメリカ！（なでしこも同時進行でみてましたが）
いやぁ、やった、金メダル！　ついにアメリカに勝ったよ。
うつぎ元監督は最後「およよ～」って泣いていて、居酒屋かと思いましたが、
（あのしゃがれ声なので最初っから解説が居酒屋でのだべりみたいだった）
泣いてしまうのも当然、悲願の金メダルだ。

今回今のところよかった種目は

• 競泳、特に、もちろん平泳ぎ。フェルプスも楽しませてくれました。
• 柔道
• 女子レスリング
• ソフトボール
• 男子100mと200m　ボルトの欽ちゃん走りで世界記録でしょう、やっぱり

期待はずれだったのは、

• 男子サッカー　グループで最下位だもんなー。女子はがんばったのに。
• 女子マラソン　野口みずきが出なかったから。しょうがないけど…。

こうしてみると日本は女子の方が強いという印象。
今回改めて思ったのが、日本人ってホントに身体が小さくてうすいということ（私は例外だが…）。
男子になるとその違いがもっと歴然としてる。
だから男子の方が勝ちにくいのでは、と最近思っているんだけど。
